Angeka On The Farm

CREATING A RURAL LIFE.

Happy Father’s Day!

fathers dayToday, Jett and I made a picnic lunch for Father’s Day. We sat in the shade of one of our big pecan trees and watched the hummingbirds and butterflies flit from flowering tree to flowering tree while we ate sandwiches and brownies. Then John went fishing. Jett and I spent the afternoon mulching the pasture garden, playing on the tire swing, lassoing cats and playing hose tag.

The watermelons have doubled in size since last weekend. We might have one just in time for 4th of July. Something is munching on the squash…and it’s not a little bug. The bites look about rabbit size although with all the cats and the dog, you’d think a rabbit would keep its distance. I guess the lure of squash is just too much. I planted a bunch of decorative gourds with the hopes of selling them in the fall and they’re about to take over. I bought some tomato cages thinking I could pen them in, but it’s beyond that. I think I’m going to need to build a quick trellis for them to climb before they suffocate the corn. I never suspected they could be so aggressive.

A quiet day on the farm.
