Uh-huh

Spring is rapidly approaching, as usual, faster than we expected. You’d think we’d be prepared by now, but no. This summer will mark 2 years since we moved here. Two years! And we’re still struggling to get it together. I’m learning to go with the flow though. That’s good, right? Uh-huh.
So here’s what’s happening. Remember those pecans? Still picking! Uh-huh. We’ve picked and sold over 600 pounds so far. I’ve got another 200 lbs sitting on the carport which I’ll bring to market next week. And about another 400 lbs (not 400 pecans, 400 pounds) still sitting on the ground. The amazing thing is, if you look up in many of the trees, there are still pecans on them that are waiting to fall. We’ve had several storms the past few weeks which have helped to knock many down. There’s another storm due tomorrow, maybe it will take care of the rest.
We’ve been trying to think of ways to bring down the pecans at one time. Yes, they do have tree shakers, but I don’t think it’s worth the expense. Although I may prove myself wrong after a few more years of this. Ideas we’re mulling: attaching a rope to the jeep and the tree, but we think the tree might win; getting a chimpanzee or two to climb through the trees and shake the branches; sending several mice up the tree followed by all 7 cats. Any other ideas?
We received our new seed order: all non-gmo, non-treated, some heirloom. We now have over 130 different kinds of seeds we can plant this year. This year, I’m creating seedlings of some of our herbs and veggies which I’ll transplant come spring. I’m still going to plant seeds outside too, but having some already growing baby plants will give us a bit of a head start. Some of the new things we’re going to try this year: horseradish, artichoke, chickpeas, mini bell peppers, white eggplant, peanuts and tobacco (yes, you can smoke it if you want, but we’ll be using it to de-worm the animals and de-bug other plants). We’ll see what is successful; and what is not. Of course, we still haven’t tilled the garden area. Uh-huh.
The grass (well, ground cover) is turning green. The asian pear tree is blooming. A chicken actually layed an egg. Yay, spring is coming! Uh-huh.

Angela,
I hear going with the flow is good, because what we want is always downstream…I’m listening and learning.
Happy to see what you are doing.
Hug your family.
Healthy regards,
Ernie
Well isn’t your son old enough to be tree shaker.
