Tonda Scuro di Piacenzo

zuke bowl

I am infatuated with a zucchini. Shhh…don’t tell John (although I think he already suspects). This is an Italian heirloom zuke that makes the most perfect bowl. Like Willy Wonka, I am a big fan of edible dishes (although this one not as sweet as his).

The name aptly translates into “big round from Piacenzo”. The one pictured (last night’s dinner) was about the size of a small cantaloupe. They can range from tennis ball size to who knows? Jett’s plan is to let one stay on the vine to see just how big it will get and then carve it into a jack o’lantern.

Now that’s a stuffed zucchini the likes of which few have seen.
