Let the games begin

New event for the summer farm olympics:  Canning!  And yes, I would win the gold.  I know it’s cliche, but we’re completely hooked on the Olympic coverage and it’s just so fitting.

Today, was a marathon:  24 half pints of Pear Butter Infused w/Vanilla Bean & Rosemary, 9 pints of Whole Pears in Brandy w/Cinnamon, and 9 pints of Whole Pears in Rum w/Vanilla Bean.

If it rains tomorrow (which is a big possibility considering the tropical depression heading our way), the Canolympics will continue.

No matter the weather, the canning process will continue, ad nauseum, until all the pears are off the tree (thank goodness there’s only one with good eatin’ pears).  I’ve got about 60 lbs still in the extra fridge (oh yes, thank goodness for the 2nd fridge) and probably another 100+ lbs still on the tree.  This may continue through the winter Olympics.

It so worth it, but I feel for ya! I had a pear peeling marathon on Sunday, putting up just one paper grocery sack of pears someone had given us. I think there are more to come on Thursday. Of course I always think the canning is worth it. Nothing’s as pretty as those scrumpteous canned goods!

Thanks for emailing me your site, I’m loving it so far. I almost woke Kellan up laughing at the picture in my head of the frog hunt.
