Pecans (not goats), pecans (not dogs) and more pecans

I really need to write something not involving animals, so I pick pecans!  And I am.  Despite the lackluster crop this year (especially compared to last year), I’m pleased to say we still have plenty.  And we have many more of the big round Frotcher’s this year than the standard seedlings.  I’ve picked maybe two tubs full of the big’uns plus 2 onion bags full of seedlings.  And there’s still plenty on the ground waiting to be plucked.  Although the dogs have eaten through a good bushel on their own.  And amazingly, considering the big storms we’ve had the last few weeks, there are still a ton in the trees.  I don’t know how they do it.  They certainly bide their time and don’t fall until they’re individually ready to plummet to the ground.

Pecans for everyone!  And we should have plenty to sell at market too.  Since this is not a bumper crop year, I’m hoping they will fetch a better price than last year.  John says we should hold them until next year, but then what if next year’s crop is huge?  We’ll get a lousy price.  Didn’t know I’d be dealing in pecan futures. Everybody’s gotta play a market one way or the other it seems.
