The new seeds are here, the new seeds are here!

Finally!

Now that we have a few growing seasons under our belts, we’re feeling more inclined to stick with the things we’ve tried and been successful with — and we actually like to eat.  However, you can’t not try at least some (that’s the key word, some — not all, some) of the tempting specimens seen in the seed catalogs.  It’s truly amazing the color, shape and flavor gifted by Mother Nature.  So, added to the usual suspects and favorites from the past 2 years is (drum roll please) :

Calai Garbanzo – this is a white garbanzo bean (aka chickpea).  Love the garbanzos.  Even a favorite of Jett’s.  We planted some Black Kabouli Garbanzos last year, but too late.  They bushed, but got frosted, so never beaned.  This year, I start them much earlier.

California Blackeye Pea – I know, we’re in Georgia.  And I had no idea John liked blackeye peas until I found a bag hidden in the freezer.  And you have to have blackeye peas for the new year.

Tendercrisp Celery – I’m dying to see celery stalks sticking up out of the ground.

Red Wing Lettuce – all types of red leaf lettuce.  Pretty and yummy!

Tigger Melons – these are sooo cool looking and appropriately named.  They are red and yellow, zig-zag striped, Asian canteloupes.  We’ll see how they like this neck of the woods.

Orange Bell Peppers – our sweet peppers did pretty well last year, although the smaller stuffing types outnumbered the large ones like these.

Japanese Yellow Eggplant – this was a gift from the seed company.  Yeah, they dig us.  Thai long purple and Chinese white egg have been a hit so hopefully these will be a colorful addition.  Imagine the stir-fry.

Fingers crossed they grow!

Yes yes yes happy belated 24th! too bad we couldn’t have a few sake bombs together to celebrate. I planted leaf lettuce at your suggestions. It’s all coming up nicely and looks like it will beat out the production of the romaine. good luck with the new seeds.
