A Farmers Progress…and/or lack thereof

Happy July 4th! Here’s a rundown of what’s happening:
- Garden overgrown with weeds…check! I mean really overgrown with weeds. That’s what happens when you take a 2 week vacation. That’s why real farmers don’t take vacations until winter.
- Collected, so far, 7 super nice, big, ripe tomatoes (eaten 4, yum); several assorted yellow cherry tomatoes; oh so many zucchini and golden squash (Am currently making several loaves of zucchini bread and experimenting with various squash recipes. Tried a roasted zuke salad last night that was pretty good. I’ll be posting new recipes over the next several months.); a few heads of bok choy; much leaf lettuce which has now bolted; tons of basil (hooray for pesto!).
- 2 out of 4 new baby goats are thriving. Now, if I could just remember what we named them. We’ve been so hesitant to not name too early due to complications, and now look! They’re super cute and fast.

Um, Flash and Jack?, the newest surving goats.
- Sunflowers galore! That is deserving of its own special post.
- 2 lots of baby birds hatched in our shed. Same spot, same nest, different birds. Also have a new family of giant red-headed woodpeckers. Giant. Like Woody Woodpecker size.
- Chicken coop, horse shed, gates remain unfinished although props to John who was out at 5 am digging holes and trenches for the coop yard. It’s just been too hot (most days in the 100s) to work during the day.
- Dogs now have their own pool set-up due to heat. Now, if we could just get one for us humans. Funny how that works.
- Grapevines graping, Pear tree pearing.
Eh, things not so bad.
