Pickin’ And A-grinnin’

Our yard is once again carpeted in pecans thanks to the blustery winds of non-hurricane Ida. Dogs, goats and chickens are eating them faster than I can pick. But luckily, there seems to be plenty to go around.

I have a new-fangled contraption to help pick this year and it is Awe. Some. It’s basically just a round wire cage on wheels and it pops the pecans off the ground and into the cage. I’d post a picture, but our camera broke. There ain’t no technology in country.

In any case, get out your cracker of choice, pecans are coming your way!

  This is my attempt to document my life on 7 acres in southwest georgia with my husband, son and numerous other animals. Our goal is to grow food that hasn’t been genetically modified, altered or chemically induced; raise lots of animals; and live a more natural,(and hopefully slightly saner) life. We have never done anything like this before. Our current motto is plant the seed, water it and see what happens. As far as the garden goes, it seems to be working, but I suppose this way of thinking applies to more than just growing food.
